Meet Sammy, the sustainable design coordinator, and follow her on a day of crafting Awamaki products! 9:00 am - Sammy makes the bucket hats for Awamaki out of scraps from other weavings and designs. She starts by choosing colors and patterns that work well together Next, the scraps need to be measured to make sure they fit the correct size for the bucket hat design 11:30 am - after a few hours of work, piles of the scraps are sorted out. Each pile has matching colors and designs, and enough material for one hat! 1:30 pm - After lunch, Sammy balls yarn made by the artisans to check the weight (thickness) of the yarn to ensure that it is consistent! 3:00 pm - to finish up the day, Sammy works on her computer. This can involve anything from research into similar companies and brands, to designing the new collection of Awamaki products for 2025! #SustainableDesign #Awamaki #EcoFriendlyFashion #CraftingCommunity #ArtisanMade #SustainableFashion #HandmadeProducts #DesignInspiration #UpcycledFashion #FashionForFuture (fb)

We’re not fast fashion (by design). Slow is part of the story. We don’t do overproduction (by choice). We don’t have a warehouse (no, seriously, it’s a small closet). We’re not fast shipping (but intentional). Every piece we offer is handcrafted by our artisan partners in the rural villages of Peru, created through deep collaboration, centuries-old textile traditions, and a shared commitment to community-led craft. We work slowly and intentionally. Some pieces are made to order. Others are produced in small batches to minimize waste and honor the natural rhythm of the work. And fulfillment? That happens in a guest bedroom closet, by one thoughtful human, packing each order with heart. We know this model isn’t built for speed. It’s built for care. For equity. For sustainability. For honoring the hands and heritage behind what we wear. Thanks for being part of this story and for choosing to move at a slower, more meaningful pace with us. #NotFastFashion #SlowIsSacred #HandmadeWithCare #SlowFashion #AndeanTextiles #CommunityLed #Awamaki #FairTradeFashion #CraftedWithIntention (fb)
