We're excited to share about the integration of the youngest male chimpanzee at Ngamba Island: Sophie's adorable baby, born October 22! Integration has started, with Sophie and baby sharing time indoors with a slowly-expanding number of carefully-selected and trusted chimpanzee companions. Starting with 10 other chimps, the group is now growing, and things are going well. It won’t be long before Sophie and baby will be released into the forest and into the entire community of Ngamba Island chimpanzees. The team is carefully watching the progress, observing every interaction to ensure that they are prepared for the big day: that's when the baby will see the forest for the first time, an environment that has been prepared for Sophie and her baby to explore. Sophie has been a resident of the Sanctuary since 1998 when she was rescued from the illegal pet trade en route to Dubai.
