As we celebrate National Volunteer Month, we give a special shout-out to Ms. Aimee. Aimee has been a valued volunteer for over four years. She started as an adopt-a-house volunteer (now Neighbors program), hosted fabulous parties and craft dates throughout the year, and celebrates consumers' birthdays. After building relationships with the individuals at the house she supported, she became friends with one of the consumers who didn't have family and was looking to have a friend outside of the home. Aimee's whole family has become a friend and cheerleader of this consumer and has demonstrated what it truly means to be a natural support. Aimee serves as a mentor and continues to have Zoom conversations with a young man who wants to work on his social skills. She serves as an advocate on a Human Rights Committee, sharing her voice on behalf of those we support. Even during her own difficult times and health challenges, she made sure to stay connected with visits and phone calls. Every organization needs a volunteer like Aimee; every person needs a friend like her. Thank you, Aimee, for your love and support. (fb)
