CleanVenture’s mission is to mentor and accelerate innovative environmental startup businesses with high-impact products and services that reduce green house gas emissions, conserve natural resources, and improve sustainability. By pursuing this mission, thousands of green collar jobs are created, the regional economy is stimulated, and San Diego is established as a nationally recognized leader in the green industrial revolution. CleanVenture also creates critically needed commercialization pathways for the clean technology innovations and discoveries from local research universities. CleanVenture works with entrepreneurs, inventors, universities, non-profits, investors, economic development organizations; and city, county, and state government; to accelerate high-potential green startup businesses.CleanVenture’s incubation focus on clean technology startups results in new products and services that: (1) advance alternative energy, (2) create breakthroughs in energy efficiency and optimizations in the use of natural resources, and (3) produce sustainable alternatives to traditional products and services. To mitigate climate change, large-scale breakthrough clean energy innovations are required. Without a business incubator for green startups, San Diego’s capacity for accelerating and commercializing breakthrough innovations is compromised.  This grant will leverage funding from other local foundations, corporate sponsors, individual donors, and government organizations. The funding will support key programs required for a world class green business incubator to implement industry best practices, and recruit, qualify, accept, and mentor incubator participants. CleanVenture’s first funding partner has offered to donate $75,000 in waived rent.
