Guess who's back in Kenya! After arriving last Friday, Joyce made her way down to the field earlier this week. She visited our three current borehole projects at Kimana Inkisanjani, and Olmoti, spent time with Hope for Widows groups, and got things moving for a busy summer. Our Livestock as a Business groups have been working hard! They received their livestock loans last fall, purchased cattle, and then put their learning to the test. They have taken care of their animals and fattened them. Just this week, our first group sold them for a profit. When their neighbor heard this women’s group was selling their cattle, he offered to buy them. But the group had a sense he was low-balling the offer. They followed their instinct and brought them to the market instead. And it’s a good thing they did! They were the first to sell at the market this Tuesday. They sold each animal for an average of 18,000 Kenyan Shilling profit (about $140 in USD) and, in total, gained over $700 USD by selling at the right time! We're so proud of everything our LAB groups have learned and—more importantly—put into practice. They're helping themselves and their families by turning livestock into profits! (fb)
