Great outcomes always come from joint efforts. VOSH/International supported the SVOSH chapter at the Ecuadorian Universidad Técnica de Manabí with an Ambassador’s visit, Dr Michael Ciszek, to share knowledge and carry out humanitarian work as part of the project “Strengthening access to eye health care for vulnerable groups”. With great empathy and under the enthusiastic leadership of Genny del Carmen Arteaga Loor, vice dean of the optometry program, her team of colleagues and students examined more than 400 patients from four local community-based organizations, with 78 needing prescription glasses. Yesterday, the children of the Fundación San Jorge received their glasses during a beautiful event organised for the purpose. Dr Santiago Quiroz, Rector of the Universidad Técnica de Manabí, said, “The children’s smiles, once they could see more clearly with their glasses, remind us of the reason for the university to be of service to our country”. VOSH/International congratulates the optometry program at the UTM for making great things happen and sincerely thanks the support of its authorities for supporting this collaboration.
