The Supreme Court Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history of the Supreme Court, the Constitution and the Judiciary. The Supreme Court Historical Society focuses on preservation of historical artifacts important to the history of the SCOTUS and educational outreach. THE SOCIETY IS DEDICATED TO THE COLLECTION AND PRESERVATION OF THE HISTORY OF THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES. IT WAS FOUNDED BY CHIEF JUSTICE WARREN E. BURGER, WHO SERVED AS ITS FIRST HONORARY CHAIRMAN. THE SOCIETY ACCOMPLISHES ITS MISSION BY CONDUCTING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, SUPPORTING HISTORICAL RESEARCH, PUBLISHING BOOKS, JOURNALS, AND ELECTRONIC MATERIALS, AND BY COLLECTING ANTIQUES AND ARTIFACTS RELATED TO THE COURT'S HISTORY. THESE ACTIVITIES AND OTHERS INCREASE THE PUBLIC'S AWARENESS OF THE COURT'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR NATION'S RICH CONSTITUTIONAL HERITAGE.

A night to remember at The Plaza Hotel celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Supreme Court Historical Society. On April 3, 2025, we honored Chris Meade, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer of BlackRock, and Brent McIntosh, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of Citigroup, for their exceptional leadership in the legal profession. Our sincere thanks to all who joined us in commemorating this important milestone in the Society’s history.

The Society mourns the loss of David Souter, who served as an Associate Justice from 1990 to 2009. He died peacefully at his home in New Hampshire on May 8, 2025, at the age of 85. Justice Souter continued to hear cases on the First Circuit Court of Appeals for more than a decade after retiring from the Supreme Court.
