Williston Historical Society Annual Meeting and Special Presentation Join us for the Annual Meeting of the Williston Historical Society, where members will vote on the slate of officers for the coming term. Following this brief business meeting, enjoy a special presentation: A Preview of a Forthcoming Book on the History of Burlington Airport Discover the fascinating story behind the growth of the Burlington Airport, as told through the eyes of Lucy McCullough, daughter of Grace and Harold Pugh—key figures in its early development. In 1977, Grace Pugh, Vermont’s first licensed woman pilot, wrote an informal book titled Burlington Airport: The First 25 Years for her children and grandchildren.

Please join the Williston Historical Society on March 9, 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Dorothy Alling Memorial Library for a free program “The Captain Wore Petticoats” This will be a first-person portrayal of Captain Philomene Daniels, the first licensed female steamboat pilot, presented by Jane Vincent of Waltham, VT. Philomene and her husband, Louis, began the Daniels’ Boat Line in 1877, which operated out of the basin area in Vergennes, VT and was the last commercial steamboat business on Otter Creek. “Captain Phil” was reported to be “one of the most picturesque and colorful figures in the history of steamboating on Otter Creek.
