The Open Book Theatre
The Open Book is New York City's first and longest lived Readers Theatre Company, established in 1975. TOB is a not-for-profit professional ensemble. Readers Theatre can be as basic as stools on a stage, or elaborate with costumes, sets, props and the like—but always with at least one actor, often all, with script in hand. This is our link to theatre and the printed word. For over 40 years The Open Book has presented the best of all worlds of literature — drama, comedy, prose, poetry, even nonfiction — to our culturally diverse audiences, including literature of excellence likely to be bypassed by more traditional theatre companies.
