Aishel was established in 2004 as a safe haven for young women who could not live at home. These girls, ages 14 to 21 were living on the streets, having fled from their families, from their communities, and from any stability in their young life. While growing up, most were victims of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. They are now on a road to self-destruction abusing alcohol, drug dependent, and often living with abusive boyfriends. At Aishel, girls are given a chance they never had. Under the direction of our house mother, counselors and in house psychologist, they are encouraged to go back to school or get a job. They learn what it's like to live in a warm and caring environment, and they discover that they are capable of accepting the responsibilities of young adulthood. Aishel has had tremendous success so far. Of the hundreds of girls who have passed through our doors, many have gone on to lead meaningful and enriching lives.
