This week, the Trump administration decided to end TPS for Afghans in the U.S. The consequences of this could be dire: Over 9,000 people could lose protection from deportation and be sent back to Afghanistan. Afghanistan remains one of the most vulnerable humanitarian crises on Earth. Removing TPS holders from their communities and returning them back to a country where 50% of the population is in need of humanitarian aid will have devastating consequences. These are the faces of resilience. They are mothers, fathers and children who have fled unimaginable violence in Sudan—and are now seeking safety across the border in Chad. In the past month alone, more than 47,000 people have arrived in Chad from Sudan, escaping brutal conflict and the world’s largest humanitarian crisis with only what they could carry. Now, Chad’s eastern regions are reaching a breaking point. Local services are overwhelmed, and both refugees and host communities are facing urgent shortages of health care, food, water, and protection. The IRC is on the ground across eastern Chad, running mobile medical clinics to provide free, life-saving care.
