THE PURPOSE OF THE SOCIETY IS TO COLLECT, PRESERVE, RESEARCH, INTERPRET AND EXHIBIT THE GENEALOGY, HISTORY AND ARTIFACTS OF MONROE COUNTY, INDIANA AS WELL AS RESEARCH AND INTERPRET THE RELATION OF THAT COUNTY'S GENEALOGY, HISTORY AND ARTIFACTS TO THE STATE OF INDIANA AND THE UNITED STATES, AND THERBY TO FOSTER A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF MONROE COUNTY'S HISTORY, CULTURE AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.
