Fun Photo Friday! Hello everyone! We are approaching Memorial Day. The day of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. In this photo we have the USS Plumas County (LST 1083). A military reminder of the brave men an women. This ship was renamed the USS Plumas County in 1955. After many years of "distinguished and meritarious [sic] service in the fleet" it was decommissioned and placed on reserve at Sasebo, Japan, August 22, 1961. By June 1, 1972 the status of ship read: "Disposed of, sold by Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMS) for scrapping." (fb)

The event runs roughly 9 AM - 2 PM on each day and is a wonderful opportunity to teach Plumas County 4th graders some fun, hands-on, pioneer skills. Hope to hear from you soon! (fb)

The concept of an active living museum is evidenced by the dozens of different exhibits events meetings and functions held at the Plumas County Museum. Permanent exhibits include an outstanding collection of baskets woven by the areas original Mountain Maidu Indians. The Industrial History Wing features Railroads of Plumas County Gold Mining on the Feather River and TIMBER. an exhibit about the lumber industry of the county.
