VLJ's mission is to ensure access to justice for people experiencing poverty. VLJ seeks to improve the lives of economically-disadvantaged adults, children, and families in New Jersey by empowering them with tools, advice and pro bono representation with the goal of securing fair and equal treatment within the legal system.

In 2023 VLJs work impacted over 4200 peopleincluding 1644 childrenand OUR volunteer attorneys donated nearly 2 million in free legal services. GET HELP VOLUNTEER DONATE VLJs BLOG VLJ News Updates EVENTS Whats New at VLJ A bill that would prohibit the State Bureau of Identification SBI in the Division of State Police from sharing criminal history information for people with unprocessed expungement records passed the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly in January and was sent to Governor Murphy. Volunteer Lawyers for Justice VLJ supports S2513A3881 preventing expunged criminal records from disclosure by the SBI.
