Laurel Mountain Improvement Foundation (LMIF) is a charitable foundation that seeks to provide support to families in our community through a variety of programs.  We have begun operations with our Firewood for Low and Fixed Income Families, providing firewood at a greatly reduced rate to families struggling to heat their homes in our cold Pennsylvania winters.  This operation has been functional since 2008.  Our Healthy Meals for Shut-Ins Program provides nutritious, organic, homemade meals to elderly and/or disabled persons in our community. This program has been initiated in 2010 on a very small scale and requires funding to expand. We plan to have a dietitian supervise this program.  Future projects still in the planning stage include the Upgrade of Existing Housing for the Handicapped project, and our most ambitious undertaking, the Fitness Center for Obese Children and their Families.  The Housing project will involve retrofitting the homes of elderly and disabled residents to meet ADA standards. The proposed projects include railings, ramps, and other modifications to houses required for these community members to lead a full life.  And finally, our Fitness Center will work in conjunction with area pediatricians and hospitals to identify children at risk for obesity and develop a center designed to instruct them on physical activities and exercise beneficial to their health.  Additionally, our dietitian will provide meal preparation education geared at leading the entire family toward a healthier lifestyle.    The overall goal of LMIF is to reach out into our community in ways that will make life better for its members.  In addition to helping community members in need, we will be ultimately creating jobs for additional local people as our projects grow over time.  Community helping community is our ultimate goal.
