Friends of the Redwood Libraries
The Friends of the Redwood Libraries is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Humboldt County Library System. This volunteer-based group aims to enhance library services by raising funds to purchase additional materials, organize community programs, and promote library activities throughout the region.
Purpose and Goals
The primary purpose of the Friends of the Redwood Libraries is to foster a strong community bond with the libraries by engaging in various fundraising activities and community outreach programs. These efforts are designed to ensure that the libraries have the resources necessary to provide a wide range of services and materials to the public.
Fundraising Activities
Key fundraising activities include book sales, both in person and online. The organization manages a bookstore within the library system, known as the Serendipity Bookstore, which offers a diverse selection of new and vintage materials. Additionally, they conduct periodic public book sales throughout the year, with special member-only sales on the preceding day. These events are vital for generating funds that support library initiatives.
Community Engagement
Beyond fundraising, the organization engages in community-focused projects, such as the Children's Art Calendars. These calendars feature artwork by local children and are sold to support library programs. The artwork is also exhibited in a local gallery, further connecting the community with library activities.
Membership and Participation
Membership with the Friends of the Redwood Libraries is open to the public and encourages both volunteerism and financial support. Members can participate in exclusive book sales and contribute to the organization's mission of enhancing local library services. The organization welcomes new members and volunteers to join in their efforts to improve the library experience for everyone in Humboldt County.
