Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute
The mission of CDRI is to promote public awareness, appreciation, and concern for nature generally and the natural diversity of the Chihuahuan Desert region specifically through education, the visitor experience, and the support of research. The CDRI is an independent nonprofit organization established in 1973 by a number of concerned professionals. The mission of the CDRI is accomplished primarily through educational activities with children and adults via formal programs and tailored activities, and by successfully operating a feature rich Nature Center, Botanical Garden mining exhibit, 5+ miles of hiking trails, a gift shop, and a cactus/succulent greenhouse, hosting nearly 15,000 visitors p.a. We are open nearly every day of the year.
