The Frida Cinema is a non-profit art house movie theater located in Santa Ana, California. It was established as the only non-profit cinema in Orange County and is dedicated to enriching, connecting, and educating communities through the art of cinema. The theater is named after the renowned Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, reflecting her legacy of artistic expression and resilience.
History
The Frida Cinema opened its doors on February 21, 2014, in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana’s vibrant arts and culture district. It took over the former Fiesta Twin Theatre, rebranding it with a focus on independent, classic, cult, international, documentary, LGBTQ+, and anime films. The theater's opening marked a significant moment in the city's cultural landscape, offering a unique space for film enthusiasts and community engagement.

In recent years, the cinema has reported revenue primarily from program services and contributions. The organization's leadership emphasizes transparency and diversity in governance, ensuring that The Frida Cinema remains a vibrant and inclusive cultural institution.
