Project Yoga Richmond

Follow Message Edit

We believe yoga has the power to heal and strengthen individuals and in turn, transform whole communities.  Project Yoga Richmond is a 501 (c3) non-profit organization in Richmond, Virginia that makes Yoga instruction accessible and affordable to practitioners of all abilities and income levels through its studio and outreach programs.  We accomplish this through our pay-what-you-can studio classes, which in part help fund our outreach programs for under-served communities. Our aim is to serve any group, facility or community desiring the mental, physical, and/or spiritual benefits that Yoga can offer, but possessing little to no opportunities to practice and learn with a skilled, trained teacher in the communities where they live, interact and work. We also provide continuing education to teachers in our community and provide sources of deeper learning to our students through visiting teachers, workshops, and special events.  What is Yoga? Yoga is the practice of principled living, movement, stillness, and self discovery. Through Yoga, we connect and balance energy, body, breath, and spirit. This connection gives rise to higher levels of awareness and empowerment, and ultimately, a deeper connection both within us and with the world around us. There are many paths and practices to be experienced along the path of Yoga, and the instructors serving through PYR represent a wide variety of traditions.Areas of Focus and Key Activities since we began in 2010:We established the area’s first pay-what-you-can studio featuring a full schedule of classes that are available to all individuals regardless of income level. We have created partnerships with community groups and organizations to bring skilled yoga instruction to those underserved populations often most in need, but with the least access. We work to bring continuing education to teachers in our community, and to provide sources of further learning to our students.
