Youth Together Inc

Youth Together Inc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting educational equity and community empowerment. Established in 1996, it focuses on developing multiracial youth leadership and organizing efforts to address systemic inequalities in public education.

1. Empowering Youth Voice and Leadership: The organization supports youth leadership through mentoring programs and civic engagement opportunities. This includes training Lead Student Organizers (LSOs) in skills such as public speaking, organizing, and conflict resolution.

History

Youth Together emerged in response to violent race riots at Castlemont High School in Oakland and Richmond High School, which highlighted the need for systemic change in education. Initially, the organization worked with five high schools: Berkeley High School, Richmond High School, Skyline High School, Fremont Federation of High Schools, and Castlemont Community of Small Schools.

Impact and Achievements

Youth Together has been involved in several significant campaigns, including the statewide movement for educational funding reform. Youth leaders contributed to the passage of the Local Control Funding Formula in 2013, resulting in substantial financial support for Oakland schools. Additionally, they advocated for credit recovery options and participated in broader education reform efforts.

Nonprofit Activities

Donations to Youth Together are tax-deductible, with contributions being the primary source of revenue. The organization's financial data shows a focus on salaries, program services, and executive compensation, reflecting its commitment to community-based initiatives.

Community Engagement
