Jessie's Heart is adopting a family through a holiday giving program with Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children to provide gifts for kids who have heart defects. With your support, we can brighten the holidays for an entire family through their challenging times. To respect the privacy of this year's family we are sharing the story of last year. Kyle is a strong 3-year-old boy, who in addition to having open heart surgery, lost his father this year. He also has a newborn brother. Mom has been extremely resilient throughout this challenging year. She’s hardworking and hopes to go back to school online to become an engineer. Thanks to the funds provided by Hope For the Holidays, we were able to get clothing and toys (Kyle LOVES cars!) for both boys and necessary baby items for the brother. We were also able to provide Mom a Ring Doorbell for her and the boy’s protection in their home. Sadly, Kyle spent his Christmas in the hospital with meningitis, but his condition has improved, and he should hopefully go home soon. This family has endured so many ups and downs in the past year and have chosen a pass to the Denver Aquarium as their memory making experience for the coming year. We are so appreciative of our partnership with Jessie’s Heart and so grateful to you for allowing us to use a portion of our grant funding to support these families during the Holiday Season! Did You Know that February is American Heart Month? Lyndon B. Johnson first proclaimed February as American Heart Month in 1964, and each U.S. president since has continued to do so. Jessie's Heart knows all too well the anxiety that comes with having a child diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. While many of us can maintain healthy hearts through life style choices, being born with a heart defect is not a choice. And, making your child's care your top priority is also not choice. Neither are the costs associated with care, some are covered by insurance but many are not. Like the cost of flying in a family member to care for other siblings while mom and dad are at the hospital, or traveling 4-6 hours one-way to the hospital, let alone stays at hotels to be close to the hospital during extended treatments or surgeries. All this adds up and can be overwhelming. Which is how you can help. By donating to Jessie's Heart, you help make a difference because we provide financial relief to families for these types of costs. Helping to lessen some of the burden parents might be facing so they can focus on the well being of their family. These are most certainly challenging times, especially for those with health issues.
