Years ago, After the Finish Line was asked to contribute to a book called Horsenameographies. Horsenameographies: Life Stories in a Race Horse Name by Lovers of Horses Everywhere is a collection of life stories told in a race horse name by lovers of horses everywhere. This collection is the result of the question --- if you were cheering for yourself as you charged down the homestretch of life, what name would you yell and why? Life stories in the book range from the humorous, to the serious, to the tragic, to the inspiring, but all of them are sure to touch horse lovers everywhere. There are over 240 entries in the book including over 40 black and white photographs submitted by contributors. The book's editor and designer are Rudolph Valier Alvarado. (fb)

May Grant #3 New Beginnings Thoroughbreds-New Jersey After the Finish Line awarded New Beginnings Thoroughbreds a grant for $2,000 for dental, chiropractic services, farrier trims and/or front shoes, alfalfa, Coggins, supplements, and/or ulcer meds for four Off Track Thoroughbreds. Their names are Johnny Ritt, Glacier Express, Builder Jak and Bourbon Currency. The mission of New Beginnings Thoroughbreds is to care for, retrain and find adoptive homes for their Off Track Thoroughbreds. They partner with trainers and other racetrack aftercare organizations to obtain horses that receive a solid foundation through groundwork and under-saddle work before placing them in adoptive homes. They care for five to seven horses allowing for personal attention for each horse with an all-volunteer team. They participate in educational events such as the PA Horse Expo, local events, and the Retired Racehorse Project (Thoroughbred Makeover) to promote the Thoroughbred, horse racing, and responsible aftercare.
