Apraxia Kids

Apraxia Kids, formerly known as the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and their families. Established in 2000, it aims to strengthen the support systems in the lives of these children, enabling them to develop speech and communication skills effectively.

Mission

Apraxia Kids focuses on educating professionals and families, facilitating community engagement, and investing in advocacy and research. The organization strives to be the leading nonprofit in this field by providing essential resources and support.

Services and Activities

• Education and Awareness: Apraxia Kids offers webinars for both professionals and parents, covering topics such as therapy, bullying, and academic challenges. They also organize the Apraxia Kids National Conference, which is the only major conference focused on the speech, language, learning, and life needs of children with apraxia.

• Support Groups: The organization provides online support groups to ensure that no family feels isolated in their journey with childhood apraxia of speech.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)

Childhood apraxia of speech is a neurological motor speech disorder that affects a child's ability to make the precise movements necessary for speaking. Despite understanding language, children with CAS struggle to articulate words due to difficulties in coordinating the physical movements required for speech. While there is no cure, intensive speech therapy can significantly improve speech intelligibility and help manage associated challenges.
