Skyes Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center was founded in 1999 as a safe haven for injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife. We admit the wildlife to our facility, provide veterinary care if needed, feed and nurture them, rehabilitate injuries, and release them back into the wild if possible. Our center cares for over 800 animals and birds each year and is a volunteer grouwe provide educational programs and displays to schools, parks, scout groups, and other public organizations and facilities. These programs and displays help teach conservation of our natural resources and how everyone can help preserve wildlife.
Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a US nonprofit organization dedicated to the care, rehabilitation, and release of injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife indigenous to Pennsylvania. Founded in 1999, it operates on a 15-acre site in Venango County.
Mission
The center provides a safe haven for various species of wildlife, including birds of prey, small mammals, white-tailed deer fawns, waterfowl, songbirds, bats, and native reptiles. It is committed to helping wildlife in need through rehabilitation and educational programs.
Operations
Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a volunteer-run 501(C)(3) organization that operates independently without state or federal funding. This autonomy underscores the importance of community support and donations for its operations. The center is open seven days a week for wildlife intake.
Funding and Challenges
Historically, the center has faced challenges in securing consistent funding, such as the loss of a significant supply of raptor food from a local lab rodent breeder, which previously saved them approximately $1,000 per month. To address these challenges, the organization engages in various fundraising activities, including recycling used inkjet cartridges to raise additional funds.
Leadership
Maryjane Angelo serves as the Executive Director and is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and educator by the state of Pennsylvania and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Community Engagement
The organization encourages community participation through volunteer opportunities and educational programs aimed at raising awareness about wildlife conservation and rehabilitation.
