Midwest Community Development believes that people are the drivers of change and the protectors of their own destiny. Our mission is to promote, support, honor, and empower the resiliency and resourcefulness of East African refugee and immigrant women and their children .MWCD is a bridge to bring people together that share an interest in a particular problem whether it be the education of their children, health education, training, finding affordable housing, or learning about democracy and civic engagement.A sustainable community must be designed in such a manner that its technologies and social institutions honor, support, and cooperate with nature’s inherent ability to sustain life of all of us.MWCDI like to take it a step further and define East African women and their children needs of sustainability as:“Creating our society, culture, humanity, and ways of life so that they honor and support natures ability to safe life.”The problems we are generally facing such as environmental degradation, economic instability, economic inequalities, poverty, political inaction/ignorance, crime and corporate corruption are in part the bad result of East African immigrant in Minnesota our ways of life being unsustainable and out of balance with character.A better question MWCDI advocating are - “how does sustainability not affect me?” The time is now here to take responsibility for all of our youth and the future of our community and world.
