Citizen Action of New Jersey

New Jersey Citizen Action

Since 1982, we've combined advocacy, organizing, & policy work while providing free direct services in our fight for social, racial, & economic justice in NJ. A statewide advocacy & social service organization that fights for social, racial, & economic justice Our 25 years of education and organizing work has focused on issues directly affecting low-and moderate- income communities, and senior, consumer, labor and other constituencies. Our work addresses taxes, health care reform, environmental hazards, and utility rates. We have expanded our aggressive outreach and training programs to families facing financial, health, insurance and utility decisions. Our work has led to substantive policy changes, such as a progressive income tax, including a recent restructuring of the tax system, the environmental Right-to-Know Law, the Family Leave Act, an increase in the Homestead Rebate Program and its expansion to include tenants, universal screening for lead poisoning, the Health Care Quality Act and managed care patient protections, and affordable housing and fair banking reforms. Recent accomplishments include the NJ Home Owner Security Act, and a current campaign to develop linked deposit requirements for state and local government funds.
