Founder
Vert Mooney, M.D.
Vert Mooney was born on April 24, 1931, and passed away on October 13, 2009. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1957 and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh from 1960 to 1964. Mooney was a distinguished figure in orthopedics, serving as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Parkland Hospital in Dallas from 1977 to 1988. He was also a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. Dr. Mooney was recognized internationally for his contributions to orthopedic research and practice, including founding the North American Spine Society (NASS) and the Interdisciplinary World Congress on Low Back and Pelvic Pain.
