The foundation's origins trace back to 2003, when Joe and Jen Andruzzi founded the C.J. Buckley Pediatric Brain Cancer Research Fund at Boston Children's Hospital in memory of a young friend who succumbed to brain cancer. Joe Andruzzi himself was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt’s lymphoma in 2007, which ended his professional football career. After successfully fighting the disease, Joe and Jen established the Joe Andruzzi Foundation to assist cancer patients and families experiencing financial hardships, inspired by their own battle and witnessed struggles of others.
