York Art Association Inc
York Art Association Inc, identified by Employer Identification Number (EIN) 23-1984781, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering interest and development in the visual arts. Founded in 1905, the organization began as The York Art Club, initiated by a group of visual artists and businessmen who aimed to exchange views and interests.
History
Over the years, the organization evolved and grew, changing its name to York Art Association at some point. It continued to thrive, increasing its membership and organizing various art exhibits and events. Key milestones include the establishment of annual Spring and Fall Members’ Exhibits in the 1930s, as well as masquerade Beaux Arts Balls. The York Art Association also acquired a collection of drawing casts created during President Roosevelt's New Deal period.
In the 1960s, during urban flight, the organization moved to a permanent location in Springettsbury Township. The 1970s were significant as the Association incorporated and gained 501(c)(3) non-profit status. This decade also saw the establishment of the first Annual Juried Exhibition, a highly respected event celebrating regional and international visual arts and serving as a fundraising platform for the organization.
Programs and Activities
The York Art Association offers an extensive education program, including fine art classes taught by professional artists. This program generates nearly half of the organization's income and remains a cornerstone of its activities. Additionally, the organization hosts various exhibitions throughout the year, including members' exhibitions and themed shows. The Rottler Awards for the Arts Exhibit is another notable event, where five selected artists receive awards and participate in a group exhibition.
The organization also operates the Sally Little Danyo Members Sales Gallery and has established the Susan Hantz Wolf Sculpture Garden. It continues to evolve with advancements in technology, adopting digital communication methods and expanding its presence through social media.
Mission
The mission of the York Art Association is to encourage and develop interest in the visual arts by providing educational opportunities through classes, workshops, lectures, and publications. The organization aims to welcome both professional artists and art appreciators, fostering a vibrant arts community.
