THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN COVERLET WAS INCORPORATED IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA ON FEBRUARY 21, 2006 FOR THE PURPOSE OF COLLECTION, DISPLAY, PRESERVATION AND STEWARDSHIP OF, AND EDUCATION REGARDING, PRIMARILY ANTIQUE WOVEN COVERLETS, THEIR HISTORY AND THEIR MAKERS, AS FURTHER DEFINED AND OUTLINED BY THE FOLLOWING (A) TO COLLECT AND DISPLAY FINE AND INTERESTING EXAMPLES OF COVERLETS OF ALL WEAVE STRUCTURES (B) TO ILLUSTRATE HOW COVERLETS WERE MADE AND BY WHOM.

The National Museum of the American Coverlet is the first independent yearround institution devoted to HISTORIC American woven coverlets. NMAC gives coverlets the recognition and respect they deserve while bringing their history to life. The Museum opened in Bedford Pennsylvanias historic 1859 former Common School building in May of 2006. Since then it has welcomed visitors from around the world.
