Shelterforce: The Original Voice of Community Development

Essential reporting on affordable housing. Support: https://t.co/8VFfmEs9kv Newsletter: https://t.co/0H6EaRTUPa ➡️ @shelterforce.bsky.social Shelterforce is a national nonprofit publication dedicated to fostering decent, affordable housing. Shelterforce's mission is to realize a just society where everyone lives in an equitable, healthy community. We do this by supporting those working toward equitable, healthy communities through independent media content that informs them, challenges them, connects them, inspires them, and advocates for their work to others. Founded in 1975 by tenant organizers and legal aid lawyers to catalyse a tenants’ movement for social justice. In the 1980s expanded to include anything related to affordable housing. In the 1990s, recognizing housing is only one component of a healthy, equitable community, it expanded again to include all work that community-based organizations take on—such as community planning, commercial development, health, arts and culture, safety—keeping housing issues central.
