As Earth Month begins, we’re celebrating Ocean Sole, a Kenyan social enterprise that’s turning something as simple as discarded flip-flops into beautiful art and new job opportunities, while protecting marine life in the process. 🌎 Each year, nearly a million flip-flops wash up on Kenya’s shores. Ocean Sole collects and upcycles this plastic pollution into vibrant hand-carved sculptures, from colorful sea turtles and elephants to full-size cars. Ocean Sole’s Ocean Mamaz initiative empowers local women to lead weekly beach cleanups, monitor 20 kilometers of coastline, and educate the next generation. They’ve removed over 600 kilograms of plastic from beaches and turned that waste into mattresses, dog beds, and building materials. 💙 One flip-flop at a time, Ocean Sole is transforming ocean waste into hope, showing that collective care can restore both ecosystems and communities.
