The AHCL was founded in 1931 as the Abington Junior Women's Club for the purpose of introducing young women between the ages of 17 and 28. TO MAINTAIN AN ORGANIZATION CENTER FOR INTELLECTUAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AMONG THE WOMEN OF THE COMMUNITY AND TO PROVIDE THOSE EDUCATIONAL ADVANTAGES WHICH SHALL FIT ITS MEMBERS FOR SERVICE IN FUTURE CLUB LIFE; TO ADVANCE THE WELFARE OF THE COMMUNITY THROUGH CHARITABLE RELIEF INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) INDER PRIVILEGED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES; TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY RESOURCES INCLUDING THE ERECTION AND MAINTENANCE OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO SUCH; TO PROMOTE ADVANCEMENT OF THE ARTS, EDUCATION AND SCIENCE PROGRAMS AND THE PROGRESS AND WORK OF GFWC PENNSYLVANIA. THE ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY FUNCTION OF DANCE INSTRUCTION ENABLES IT TO ACCOMPLISH ITS MISSION FINANCIALLY. A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE PROFITS ARE CONTRIBUTED TO LOCAL CHARITIES AND QOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES (FIRST RESPONDERS) WITHIN THE GEOGRAPHIC REGION.

Abington Heights Civic League Inc. Civic League History The AHCL was founded in 1931 as the Abington Junior Womens Club for the purpose of introducing young women between the ages of 17 and 28 to the workings of the Federated Womens Club. In the late 50s the AJWC was instrumental in starting the Abington Community Library. In 1978 the Juniors became the AHCL and membership is now open to any woman in the community over 17 years old who is interested in belonging to and supporting our mission.
