McKeesport Regional History and Heritage Center

The McKeesport Regional History and Heritage Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of McKeesport and its surrounding communities. Founded in 1980, it serves as a museum, research facility, repository, and community center, engaging local communities through educational programs and events.

Mission and Activities

The center's mission is to preserve the region's history for public education and enjoyment. The museum houses the City of McKeesport's first schoolhouse, which has been relocated from five previous sites. Additional exhibits include an Industry Wing featuring a scale model of the U.S. Steel National Tube Works, church collections, and tributes to notable local figures such as Helen Richey.

The center strives for inclusivity by hosting events and programs that involve minority communities, including African Americans, American Indians, and LGBTQ+ groups. It provides free museum access and offers genealogical research resources, both in-person and through contracted services.
