Help us celebrate our President's Medallion and Honorary Degree recipients. These individuals bring distinction to the institution through noteworthy public service, significate contributions the state, the nation and the world as well as provide exceptional service that has influenced the well-being of humankind. President's Medallion: 🏅 Linda Copple Trout ’73, '77, Justice Trout had a trailblazing legal career as the first woman appointed to the Idaho Supreme Court and later served two terms as Chief Justice. Her many accolades and dedicated service — including leading the U of I Foundation Board — reflect her excellence, integrity and commitment to our community. Colonel Kendrick Wills. A respected leader in law enforcement, he served as Director of the Idaho State Police from 2017 to 2024, known for his commitment to organizational excellence and community care. Following the 2022 tragedy in Moscow, his leadership and compassion helped our Vandal Family begin to heal. Colonel Wills truly exemplifies the values of excellence, integrity and perseverance. Honorary Doctorate of Natural Resources: 🎓🌲 Dale Bosworth '66 served over 40 years with the U.S. Forest Service, including as Chief from 2001–2007, overseeing 193 million acres and championing forest health nationwide. His leadership shaped major policy, including the Healthy Forest Restoration Act. We’re grateful for his lasting impact on natural resource stewardship and his continued support of our Vandal community. Honorary Doctorate of Engineering:🎓⚒️ Tim Arnold a respected leader in the mining industry, Tim has earned top honors, including the SME Distinguished Member status and Lawrence Saunders Gold Medal. He’s advanced the field through education, professional development, and key support in launching U of I’s new geological engineering program. We’re grateful for his lasting contributions to engineering and our Vandal community. Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters: 🎓📚 Kathleen Duncan a dedicated leader and volunteer, Kathleen has served on the boards of several prestigious institutions and brought that same passion to the Vandal community. Married to proud Vandal Randy Luten, she’s a regular at alumni events and a generous supporter of U of I. We’re grateful for her leadership, mentorship and enduring Vandal spirit. (fb)

Since 1961, 517 Vandals have answered the call to serve - part of a global movement of more than 240,000 Volunteers fostering understanding and making a difference in 144 countries. Today, we’re honored to be named No. 10 among medium colleges on the Peace Corps’ 2025 Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list.
