Ohio Energy Group

Introduction

The Ohio Energy Group (OEG) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization. It was formed in 2003 by large energy-intensive utility customers in Ohio to address common energy goals, mainly securing reliable utility service at competitive rates.

Objectives and Activities

OEG consists of 28 member companies, including several Fortune 50 entities. The organization's primary objectives include:

  • Intervention in Regulatory Proceedings: OEG participates in proceedings before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, the Supreme Court of Ohio, and occasionally the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to advance the interests of its members.
  • Negotiation with Utilities: OEG negotiates with utilities and energy providers on behalf of its members to ensure favorable contracts.
  • Legislative Monitoring: The group monitors and analyzes energy legislation before the Ohio General Assembly, informing members about potential impacts on energy costs and service reliability.
  • Lobbying Support: OEG assists members in lobbying legislators on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Education and Legal Services: It educates members on Ohio energy issues and offers legal services when members need to participate individually in state or federal proceedings.

Structure and Personnel

OEG is led by a board of officers, including a president and other key personnel. As reported in the latest accessible data, key personnel include Greg Long as President, and others in various officer roles, with no compensation listed for these positions[5].

Financial Status

OEG derives its revenue primarily from contributions, with $1,024,420 reported in one recent fiscal year[1][5]. Donations to OEG are not tax-deductible due to its 501(c)(6) designation[1]. Activities are funded entirely by member contributions, with no income from program services or investments[5].

Conclusion

The Ohio Energy Group plays a crucial role in advocating for the energy interests of its member companies in Ohio, focusing on securing reliable and competitively priced utility services.
