In honor of #WorldHealthDay here's a look back at healthcare a century ago. It's the operating room at Chillicothe Hospital, 1910. The hospital was located at the corner of Chestnut and Cherry streets. Note the large windows to allow plenty of natural light. (fb)
Today is Army Day. (It used to be May 1 before 1929 because they hoped to draw attention away from Communists celebrating Workers' Day, which also occurs on May 1, but was changed to the date the US Army entered WWI.) One of Chillicothe's contributions to the US Army was Camp Sherman, a WWI training camp. Though US involvement in the war was brief, at least 120,000 soldiers were trained there. (fb)

The Ross County Historical Society was founded in 1896 to commemorate the centennial of the founding of Chillicothe Ohio and to preserve and promote the study of the history of the city Ross County and the surrounding region. One hundred and twentyfive years later the Societys mission remains largely the same. The RCHS conducts educational programs for people of all ages saves and preserves for posterity historical artifacts and documents and operates three museums and a research library. All are open to the public.
