OUR MISSION WAS TO PROVIDE A THERAPUTIC, CONSISTENT, CARING AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR ADOLESCENTS WHO THUS FAR HAVE NOT BEEN MANAGEABLE IN THE COMMUNITY, BY PROVIDING SOCAIL SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ENABLING THEM TO BECOME AUTONOMOUS, PRODUCTIVE INDIVIDUALS IN SOCIETY. OUR UPDATED MISSIONIS TO STUDY THE PURPOSES, METHODS AND EFFECTS OF CONGREGATE AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS FOR ADOLESCENTS, AND TO MAKE THAT INFORMATION FREELY AVAILABLE TO ALL INTERESTED PARTIES AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

The Aichhorn Center was organized as a notforprofit corporation in New York State in 1977 to serve to study and to teach about the special problems of providing longterm care and treatment to teenagers who were unplaceable in any existing facilities except State hospitals or correctional institutions. The Center opened a 32bed RTF in Manhattan in May 1991 and a second 24bed RTF in Brooklyn serving teenagers in custody in the juvenile justice system in June 2012.
