Overview

The Essilor Vision Foundation (EVF) is a public nonprofit organization based in Dallas, Texas, founded in 2007. The mission of the foundation is to eliminate poor vision and its lifelong consequences, particularly among children from underprivileged backgrounds. EVF works to provide essential vision care services, including screenings, eye exams, and eyeglasses, to children whose families cannot afford them.

Programs and Services

EVF operates several key programs aimed at improving vision care access and awareness:

• Changing Life Through Lenses (CLTL): This initiative focuses on providing prescription glasses to children in need through partnerships with local eye care professionals. The program aims to address the root causes of poor vision, which often stem from financial barriers and lack of education about vision care.

• Kids Vision for Life (KVFL): This program delivers mobile vision clinics to schools and community centers, offering eye exams and distributing glasses on-site. It targets children who may not have had previous access to eye care.

• Education and Awareness: EVF also conducts outreach efforts to educate communities about the importance of eye health. This includes promoting vision screenings in schools and engaging parents in discussions about their children's vision needs.

Since its inception, the foundation has provided over 1.5 million pairs of glasses and has partnered with more than 428 other nonprofits to extend its reach and impact.

The work of the Essilor Vision Foundation has been shown to significantly improve academic performance and overall well-being among children. Studies have demonstrated that participating students experience higher attendance rates, improved grades, and reduced disciplinary issues. By focusing on underserved areas, EVF aims to bridge the educational gap related to vision impairment.

Financials and Support

In 2019, EVF reported total receipts of approximately $7.8 million, which allowed the foundation to sustain its initiatives and expand its services. A substantial portion of the foundation's funding comes from Essilor of America, which supports EVF through in-kind donations and overhead contributions.

Collaborations and Partnerships

EVF collaborates with various local institutions, including Title I schools and healthcare providers, to enhance the delivery of vision care. The foundation's strategic partnerships with organizations such as the Special Olympics have facilitated screening programs that benefit individuals with intellectual disabilities, thereby broadening the scope of its services.
