Louisville Male High School Band Association
THE PURPOSE OF THE ASSOCIATION IS TO INCREASE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND FACILITATE ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS THROUGH SUPPORT OF THE LOUISVILLE MALE HIGH SCHOOL BAND. THE ASSOCIATION PROVIDES VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT THROUGH FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES. THIS SUPPORT HELPS TO PROVIDE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, UNIFORMS, AND CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AS WELL AS ALLOWING PARTICIPATION IN CONCERTS AND BAND COMPETITIONS. OVERALL, THESE ACTIVITIES ENHANCE THE STUDENT'S UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF MUSIC.

A growing 19th century river city needed a place to prepare its men for leadership. In 1861 Male was designated The University of Public schools of Louisville and granted bachelors degrees until 1912. In the 1950s girls entered the halls of Male for the first time.
