Here at Woodcock Nature Center, we sometimes have a sudden urge to share fun facts. Today we'd like to share a fun word - "PSITHURISM." Psithurism is a noun, and it means "a rustling or whispering sound." It can be used to describe the beautiful airy white noise of tree crowns steadily blowing the breeze overhead, or the stimulating sound of scattered leaves on the forest floor rustling on an otherwise quiet day. Maddie from Ridgefield Troop 19 chose to do her Eagle Scout Project at Woodcock and made our grounds so much more beautiful —for both us humans and native species to enjoy! She designed and planted two gardens beside our Bird Enclosure using only native plants. She also built and installed two nesting boxes for birds, and created gorgeous wood burned signs showing the types of pollinator species that love to visit native species! Thank you, Maddie!
