🐢 Happy World Turtle Day! 🐢 Help us celebrate the turtles and tortoises that call the Everglades home. From the slow gopher tortoise to the graceful sea turtle, and all the turtles in between, these species play a vital role in South Florida’s ecosystem. Climate change, pollution, habitat destruction, toxic algae and more are just a few of the threats they face. Protecting the Everglades means protecting these incredible creatures too! 💚 Photos by Multimedia Producer Leah Voss #worldturtleday #everglades #friendsoftheeverglades #turtle #tortoise (fb)

🥳 We did it! The State Park Preservation Act has been signed into law. From August’s quick formation by Florida’s nature lovers, to this new law preventing any such sneak attack from happening again, we fought this together every step of the way! Friends of the Everglades Executive Director Eve Samples said this: “Floridians never should have had to fight our own governor to keep harmful development out of state parks — but we did, and this victory is a testament to the strong bipartisan support for protecting public lands across Florida. We’re grateful to the sponsors of the State Park Preservation Act — especially Rep. John Snyder and Sen. Jennifer Bradley — for their willingness to work with constituents to close loopholes in the original version of this legislation and get a strong new law across the finish line.” Congratulations, team! #florida #flstateparks #environment #democracy (fb)
