Our Casa Tepeyac Village does incredible work to support family reunification, under-resourced parents, and youths who have aged out of care. We are happy to spotlight one of Casa’s amazing Family Advocacy Specialists, Michelle Tinajero. Michelle joined One Family Illinois in 2023 and brought a profound belief in every family's ability to succeed. Born and raised in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood, Michelle understands the experiences of many of our families. She knows the power of access to resources like therapy, employment opportunities, housing, and academic support, and works to increase that access. She takes pride in her commitment to our families, using her expertise “to fill in the cracks of the foster care system with support and advocacy.” Since joining our team, she has helped parents regain custody of their children and become the best versions of themselves. As Foster Care Awareness Month continues, we want to take a moment to spotlight our Board Treasurer, Phaedra Leslie! Phaedra is an incredible person with extensive experience in social impact, community advocacy, and equity work.
