The Council of the Great City Schools is a coalition of 78 urban school districts that exclusively represents the needs of urban public schools. SEE SCHEDULE O, PAGE 45.FOUNDED IN 1956 AND INCORPORATED IN 1961, THE PURPOSE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE GREAT CITY SCHOOLS (THE COUNCIL) IS TO REPRESENT THE NEEDS, CHALLENGES, AND SUCCESSES OF MAJOR-CITY PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND THEIR STUDENTS BEFORE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, THEIR ELECTED OFFICIALS, AND THE PRESS; TO PROMOTE THE IMPROVEMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THESE DISTRICTS THROUGH ADVOCACY, RESEARCH, COMMUNICATIONS, CONFERENCES, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES THAT MAY ALSO BENEFIT OTHER SCHOOLS, SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND STUDENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
