Springfield, Illinois Springfield Education Association (SEA) is a local association, chartered in 1961, from the collective assembly of Springfield 186 educators and education professionals. Its membership consists of approximately 1250 professionals from within SPS186. TO PROVIDE AND MAINTAIN A PROFESSIONAL STAFF OF SUPERIOR QUALITY, TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP FOR AND TO COORDINATE THE EFFORTS OF THE MEMBERSHIP IN THE ATTAINMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF A COMPREHENSIVE MATTERS AGREEMENT, TO PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE OF THE MEMBERSHIP, TO PROVIDE EFFECTIVE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATIONS IN ALL MATTERS AFFECTING THE PROFESSION, TO STRIVE FOR AN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM THAT SEEKS TO MEET THE EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF ALL PERSONS, AND TO ENCOURAGE MEMBERS TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS AND PRIVILEDGES AS CITIZENS AND TO ACCEPT LEADERSHIP IN CIVIC AFFAIRS.

Sue Handy Scholarship 2025 The Springfield Education Association SEA offers the Sue Handy Scholarship to students pursuing a career in public school teaching honoring Sue Handys contributions to education. The scholarship is available to graduating seniors from District 186 or students with a parent or guardian employed by the district as long as they attend a public school. Recipients will receive 2500 over four years 500 annually for the first three years and 1000 in the fourth year. To maintain eligibility students must remain enrolled in a teacher preparation program.
