Green Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Overview

The Green Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (GBAUUF) is a nonprofit organization with an EIN of 391777302, established in 1992 to provide a spiritual and community-focused space for its members. The fellowship began its meetings in the cafeteria of an insurance company located in the former Regency Center in downtown Green Bay. Over time, it has rented and leased spaces at various locations before finally acquiring its permanent home in 2017.

History and Development

Initially, the fellowship held services at the YWCA dance studio for many years. This period was followed by leases at several other locations, ultimately leading to the acquisition of a former credit union building at 1313 Main Street, which has been transformed into a vibrant sanctuary for spiritual growth. The building's design is inspired by nature, reflecting the fellowship's commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

Community Initiatives

GBAUUF is actively involved in various community initiatives. One notable example is the urban food forest project, launched in the spring of 2023, aimed at promoting sustainability by planting native plants and vegetable gardens. The goal is to create a resource that benefits local residents and food pantries alike.

The fellowship supports local organizations such as JOSHUA (Justice Organization Sharing Hope and United for Action) and participates in events like the annual Pride Alive festival. Members are also engaged in sustainability initiatives and other community activities.

The NEW UU Consortium

In June 2021, GBAUUF formed the NEW UU Consortium alongside Open Circle of Fond du Lac and The Point Fellowship in Stevens Point. Under the leadership of Rev. Jim Coakley, the consortium offers both in-person and virtual services, enhancing its outreach and impact in the region.

Philosophy and Membership

As a member of the national Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), GBAUUF is a welcoming congregation that values diversity and inclusivity. It is recognized as an LGBTQ+ welcoming congregation and is dedicated to environmental stewardship, designated as a Green Sanctuary.

The fellowship invites all interested individuals to join and become part of its rich history and community-driven mission.
