The third floor was used for their lodge. The first and second floors were used for entertainment. In 1965 the year of What Cheer39s 100 year centennial the building was set to be demolished so a committee purchased the building from the contractor for 500 to stop the demolition.

In 1910 the town of What Cheer came into the limelight as the wrestling center of Iowa. The community became interested in the game due to a number of wrestling enthusiasts residing in the neighborhood. The local opera house has been used for the matches and on November 11 the wrestling championship of the United States was held at the opera house.
