The mission of Ujamaa Place is to assist young African American men primarily between the ages of 18 and 30, who are economically disadvantaged and have experienced repeated cycles of failure. This mission statement is rooted in the philosophy of African American culture and empowerment – that everyone is important, valuable, worthy, and loveable.

Ujamaa Place opened its doors in 2010 with the mission of helping participants achieve brotherhood stability and personal success. Through the Ujamaa Place experience and its evidencebased Theory of TransformationTM staff and partners strive to help participants achieve numerous ultimate outcomes. Those include stable housing increased educational attainment career acquisition and retention family connection eliminating contact with the Criminal Justice System system and Addressing Emotional and Social Traumas Through the Ujamaa Place experience participants are empowered to be change agents in their communities.
