The 2025 Catskill Center Catskill Stewards season is officially underway! Our Stewards hit the trails this May after two weeks of in-depth training to prepare them for a summer supporting visitors and protecting the Catskills. From Wilderness First Aid and Leave No Trace principles to plant identification, wildlife encounter protocols, and radio communications—they’re ready for whatever the season brings. Stewards are a friendly presence at busy trailheads, advocating for responsible recreation while keeping you informed, safe, and welcomed. Thanks to our partners NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, and Catskill Mountainkeeper for joining forces in this essential training effort. The Simmons Family Garden is officially open at the Catskills Visitor Center! This new garden is blooming with native plants chosen to support pollinators—from bees and butterflies to birds and other beneficial species. In addition to being a beautiful addition to the landscape, it’s an important step forward in strengthening local biodiversity.
