Baby Basics of The Peninsula, Inc.

Baby Basics is an all-volunteer organization that provides free diapers and focused social services to a roster of working poor families with babies living in East Palo Alto and Menlo Park, CA. The Baby Basics program provides struggling families a supportive safety net from welfare, help in maintaining self-sufficiency and an ongoing connection to a large, local social services network.Our program meets an urgent need for working poor families in our community. Our client families maintain regular employment and do not receive welfare. However, despite their incomes, these families remain in relative poverty due to low pay levels and extremely high local living expenses. Our clients' average annual household income ranges from $24,000-$27,000. Baby Basics saves enrolled families approximately $800 per year by eliminating the cost of diapers entirely from the family budget. This is a significant savings for a family during a critical time - when there is an infant in the home.Beyond diapers, our innovative program is also a trusted resource for additional family support. Our unique direct service program is run by social services providers from our service area, allowing us to build trust and lasting support relationships with our client families. We offer families connections to a broad network of local agencies and organizations to help meet their emerging healthcare, educational or other needs.
